The desiccant breather replaces the standard dust cap or OEM breather cap on equipment, offering better filtration to protect against even the smallest particulates that destroy the effectiveness of your machinery, and cause downtime and costly repairs. As air is drawn into equipment through the breather, the layered desiccant filter elements remove particulate while the desiccant beads strip harmful moisture. While in service or during shut-down, the desiccant beads attract moisture from inside the equipment reservoir, actively drying the equipment.

Ventguard Breathers

Ventgaurd Breathers are the ideal desiccant breathers for low-flow and intermittent operation applications. By using a check valve, the breather stays sealed until a specified pressure is attained. Once the specified pressure is attained, the system introduces clean, dry air. Additionally, breather life is extended by preventing premature saturation of the silica gel.

Maintenance Tip - Breathers Exclude Particles, Not Extract Them

Customers often ask the question of why you see a decrease in the moisture level after installing a desiccant breather, but the particle counts remain high.  The answer to that is simple, it's that the particles were already there. You see a desiccant breather will take moisture out of the oil and it certainly prevents moisture from coming into the sump, but it doesn't take particles out. The oil was dirty when you put it in that reservoir, so a desiccant breather can't get those particles out. Desiccant breathers are very effective at what they're supposed to do – to exclude contamination – but they're really just a part of a broader contamination control strategy. We really have to make sure storage and handling is in order, transfer techniques, application techniques and of course we need to protect the integrity or the condition of the oil and the service.
